; Exploring the Dungeons of Avalon, a disassembly project

In the first Dungeons of Avalon game, press G in the Adventurer’s Guild to bring up a Monster Gallery. Press Left and Right on the keyboard to cycle between them, and press spacebar to exit. You can press Left from the start and look at the non-monster graphics like the city and NPCs.

There is a Monster Gallery in Dungeons of Avalon II, but you have to complete the game to unlock it.

Unlimited money

A well-known exploit allows you to acquire unlimited amount of money. This works in both DoA1 and 2.

  1. Go to a shop and pool everyone’s gold.
  2. Dismiss everyone except the guy who has all the gold.
  3. Create 5 new characters. They will each have their own starting gold.
  4. Pool everyone’s gold and give it to your original character.
  5. Dismiss the 5 new characters.
  6. Do this repeatedly and amass a lot of gold.

Unlimited encounters exploit

A random encounter tile disappears once you defeat all the monsters, which limits your ability to grind XP on a given level. However, if you kill only some of the monsters and flee, the encounter tile remains. You can then use it to generate new monster fights over and over, as long as you don’t kill the last monster. You get gold and XP each time.

Normally, you don’t need to grind like this, since the default party will reach the level cap by the end of the game just by fighting all the normal encounters. However, if you introduce new party members, such as attempting to build an optimal party to beat the final boss, you can use this to level them up.

Use and identify unknown items

In Dungeons of Avalon II, you can effectively identify some unknown items by observing the slot they occupy when picked up. For example, picking up unidentified arrows will automatically equip them in the character’s ammunition slot.

You can also use certain items without identifying them, such as healing potions.

For reference, here’s a list of all unidentified items in the game, their locations (dungeon level 1 being the first level you enter from the city), and what other items are found in their chest.

There are no unidentified items in the first Dungeons of Avalon.
